99.3 The Fox’s ‘Nineties At Noon”  presents  CRACKER in concert with special guest VICTOR KUMMENACHER (of Camper van Beethoven) on Friday, July 3rd at VENUE on  Granville St. in Vancouver (formerly known as the Plaza Club).  Advance tickets will go on sale on Saturday, June 6th for $24.50 (plus Service Charges) at all Ticketmaster outlets.

CRACKER released their second album KEROSENE HAT in late 1993, which featured the monster single “Low,” and everything changed. Not because of CRACKER, but along with them.  The world of rock changed as musicians who had been relegated to college radio and underground status through the eighties stepped up to the big stages and took over the direction in rock music.  Established rock acts stood aside as bands like CRACKER, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Nirvana made a new, more immediate kind of American music.

Guitar player/singer David Lowery formed the ‘alternative’ band Camper Van Beethoven in the mid-eighties in Santa Cruz, California and had big success on the college scene with singles like “Take The Skinheads Bowling.” In 1990 he formed CRACKER with guitar player Johnny Hickman and their debut self-titled album hit the charts big right away with the quirky single “Teen Angst (What The World Needs Now),”  Nineteen years later, after putting out eight albums (one platinum and three gold), the two of them are still doing it with the help of Frank Funaro on drums and Sal Maida ( previously with Roxy Music and Sparks) on bass.

CRACKER , still brimming with  brash irreverence and irony, has just released the latest studio album Sunrise In The land Of Milk And Honey and the first singleTurn on Tune In and Drop Out With Me.” As usual they have their impeccable, hypnotic and soul-captivating groove.  Musically, they have a knack for getting to the heart of a song and throwing away unnecessary clutter and the new album features a tasty slice of sharp-witted songs with a  bristling, late seventies/early eighties power-pop punk aesthetic which hits as hard as it did at the band’s formation.
