When two become ONE, musical magic happens. That is most certainly the case with this new album from NATALIE MACMASTER and DONNELL LEAHY. These two award-winning fiddle virtuosos have each enjoyed phenomenally successful careers on their own, but ONE marks their recording debut as a duo.

With her Cape Breton roots, dedication to her craft, and love for her family, NATALIE MACMASTER is a mighty musical force with a long and successful career in music. The lively and energetic strains of “Alex MacMaster’s Jig”, “Stoney Lake Reels”, “The King George Medley”, “David’s Jig”, “Jimmy MacKinnon of Smelt Brook” and the stirring “Our Father” are just a few of the reasons this beloved and charismatic performer holds a piece of our hearts.

Over a recording career spanning 25 years, This Order of Canada recipient has released 11 albums, won two JUNO and eleven East Coast Music Awards and has been nominated for a Grammy. A bit of a musical chameleon, MacMaster has collaborated with artists as diverse as Yo-Yo Ma, Alison Krauss, Jesse Cook, and Bela Fleck, but remains above all a master of Cape Breton fiddle.

Whether DONNELL LEAHY is performing with his internationally acclaimed family Leahy, alongside his wife, Natalie MacMaster, or solo, audiences are mesmerized by every amazing moment of his riveting performances. His perfect balance of intense power and precision with the sweetness and tone of the fiddle come together in such tunes as “Chasing Rain/Otis”, “Mission”, “Wedding Day Jig”, “Seamus”, “Coyote Way” and “Little Ditty”. Some even say he created a new genre of music known simply as “Leahy.”

Honing his remarkable talent from the tender age of three Donnell, as the oldest brother of the family, is no stranger to the awards podium. LEAHY received JUNO nominations in 1998, 2001 and 2005 along with three JUNO Awards for Instrumental Artist(s) of the Year (1998), Best New Group (1998) and Best Country Group or Duo (1999).

This dynamic duo has previously performed together as well as making appearances on each other’s albums, but ONE is their official first full recording as a duo. A document of their musical growth together, ONE has been 12 years in the making, but what a document it is! The collaboration is a combination of old and new, original traditional, a true combination and complement of two becoming one. Featuring an undeniable energy with unparalleled musicality, ONE sits at #1 on the New Artist Chart and the current World Artists Chart. Committed Leahy and MacMaster fans and the curious alike will surely be charmed by this truly one of a kind concert.
