GORD DOWNIE. We all know him as the face of The Tragically Hip, a great Canadian rock band that was never ashamed to mine the culture of the homeland, and still manage to turn it into hit records. To date The Tragically Hip has released twelve studio albums and won fourteen Juno Awards.

GORD DOWNIE has just released his long-awaited third solo album The Grand Bounce with his backing band The Country Miracles to rave reviews across the land.  It has been seven years since his rebelliously eclectic offerings Battle Of The Nudes (2003 Rounder Records) and Coke-Machine Glow (2001 Zoe Records) which contained all kinds of sonic snippets, spoken word and found sound.

On The Grand Bounce he has shed the need to prove himself ‘more than a rock star’ artistically and has stripped away the clutter, arriving at a clear, evocative sound with songs that range from the poignant ‘Yellow Skies’ to the challenging ‘Hard Canadian.’

Over the years it has been GORD DOWNIE the distinctive vocalist, the lyricist, rock star, on stage ranting, simply bursting with thousands upon thousand of freeform words like a reborn Jim Morrison, entertaining and shocking at the same time.  GORD DOWNIE the singer, the actor, the writer, the poet. Now after many years, like his friend Gordon Lightfoot, the name GORD DOWNIE is simply synonymous with ‘unabashedly, passionately Canadian‘.
